Rediscovering Islam with an integral historical perspective. an urgency of our times to put in context and neutralize potentially polarizing effects of terrorism and war – is a task done quite well by Thomas Michel. He is an American Jesuit who has lived in Muslim countries for thirty years.
The title of his handbook. being a foundational tool for that dialogue. comes from the Quran 18, 60, a verse which signifies. according to an interpretation (editor Bausani. p.55). an encounter between two seas of wisdom. The first five chapters offer a clear and essential presentation of Islam and its prophet. The sixth deals with Islamic awakening and the so-called fundamentalism. The last chapter takes a look at the possibilities and problems in a dialogue of liberation with Muslims.
