The message of the Book of Revelation was very clear to its first readers: Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God’s victory over human rebelliousness and sin has already been achieved. It is a message of hope and joy. How is it then that today mention of the Book of Revelation arouses a sense of anxiety, fear, and even doom?

The aim of this commentary is to help people overcome their apprehension about the Book of Revelation and to find in it a resource for their personal and communal spirituality. Harrington skillfully opens up the riches of the book, showing in easy-to-understand terms its literary, historical, and theological dimensions. This book is must-reading for anyone wishing to understand the Book of Revelation better and for all those who wish to grow spiritually from the scriptures.

Daniel J. Harrington, S.J., is a professor at the Weston School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has written over twenty books, including How to Read the Gospels, Matthew (part of the Sacra Pagina series which he also edits), Romans, and Paul’s Prison Letters.

He is past president of the Catholic Biblical Association (CBA).
