Dom Helder
Camara puts forward a series of beautiful reflections on the role of human
beings as co-creators of the universe. He writes with the sensitivity of a poet
and the simplicity of one who is deeply spiritual. The reflections take us
through the failures of our human condition to a discovery of the wonder and
value of creation. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in a
Christian approach to ecology.

Dom Helder Camara is well known throughout the world for his
ceaseless work for the poor and his efforts to promote human rights. Born in
Fortaleza, Brazil, in 1909 and ordained to the priesthood in 1931, he became
bishop of Rio de Janeiro in 1951 and archbishop of Recife in 1965 on, he was
the National Brazilian Bishop’s Conference’s director for Social Action. Today
